In his remarks at the Walk to Washington's Congressional Dinner on Thursday, Gov. Chris Christie touted the cooperation that has led to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey approving a $32 billion capital plan earlier in the day. Today, we approved the capital fund, Christie said in Washington, D.C. For the first time in history, in New Jersey, we are getting more money than New York: "$1.5 billion for the expansion of the PATH, which will make Newark the dominant airport in the region; "$3.5 billion to renovate the Port Authority Bus Terminal; and "$4.5 billion toward the Gateway tunnel project. According to published reports, a new Port Authority Bus Terminal that would be constructed by 2029 or 2030, while the PATH rail system will be extended to Newark Liberty International Airport, among other projects. Christie elaborated on his relationship with New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo in getting the projects approved. We have put a premium on cooperating with the other side of the aisle, Christie said. Over the last seven years that we have served together, I do not think you have ever seen us share cross words publically, and I can assure you we have not had them privately. We have approached our relationship by acknowledging that our obligation is to our common region. http://www.njbiz.com/article/20170216/NJBIZ01/170219850&source=RSS |
